BMW Championship Update
Robert MacIntyre, the Scottish golfer ranked 63rd in the world, has withdrawn from the BMW Championship due to lower-back pain. MacIntyre withdrew after playing just 9 holes of the third round at Castle Pines Golf Club. He cited lower back pain as the reason for his withdrawal.
MacIntyre was 6 over par for the tournament through 33 holes. He opened with a 74 on Thursday and followed that up with a 71 on Friday. He was 3 over par through 9 holes on Saturday before withdrawing.
The BMW Championship is the second event of the FedEx Cup Playoffs. The top 30 players in the FedEx Cup standings after the BMW Championship will advance to the Tour Championship, the final event of the playoffs.
MacIntyre's withdrawal is a blow to his hopes of qualifying for the Tour Championship. He is currently ranked 33rd in the FedEx Cup standings. Only the top 30 players will advance to the Tour Championship.
